Vancouver Canucks rookie defenseman Victor Mancini recently opened up about how he found out that the New York Rangers were trading him earlier this year.

A little over three months ago, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin made a big splash by by trading J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers, giving him a fresh start after a reported feud with teammate Elias Pettersson.
In return, Patrik Allvin and the Canucks received a first round pick (which they flipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins), former first rounder Filip Chytil and rookie defenseman Victor Mancini, who made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers earlier in the season.

During a recent interview with Canucks Army, Victor Mancini revealed how he found out about his trade from the New York Rangers to the Vancouver Canucks.
Mancini shared that he was with the New York Rangers AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, in Laval as they were getting ready to take on the Rocket and after the warm up, he was pulled aside by his coach who informed him he wouldn't be playing that night.
The 22-year-old said that he was confused and shortly after when he was in the locker room getting undressed and back into his suit, he had friends sending him tweets regarding the trade between New York and Vancouver involving him, asking if it was true.
"I was in Hartford at the time, in the Rangers organization. We were playing in Laval and I was actually getting ready for a game, like I was on the ice warming up and after warm ups, my coach pulled me aside and just said like 'hey, you're not dressing tonight, you're not going to play'. Usually when I'd go up and down, they would kind of tell you right away, like 'hey, you're going up, this is happening' and he didn't say anything, so I was a little confused. He's just like 'this is a decision from the management, that's all I know'." Mancini said.

He added, "Next thing I know, I'm getting undressed, I'm looking at my phone and I've got buddies sending me tweets from Elliotte Friedman and all those insiders and they're like 'is this true?' and at the time I'm like 'I don't know'.

So just for me, it felt like I was wanted in the Canucks organization, so that made me feel really at ease. You kind of go from this sense of unease to comfort almost and excitement and I was on a plane the next day to Vancouver and the rest is history I guess."
The Hancock, Michigan native had a smooth transition into the Vancouver Canucks organization and played quite well during his 16-game stint with the club, primarily in the third pairing role.
Mancini is currently down in the American Hockey League where he's raising eyebrows with his play during the Calder Cup Playoffs and there's no doubt that he could be in contention for an opening night roster spot in the NHL this fall.
