'Struggling to Get Invested'- Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet Calls Out 5 Players for Lacking Effort
After the Vancouver Canucks have added to their already lackluster record at home to 5-7-4, head coach Rick Tocchet spoke to the media, and said some things you never want to hear out of a coaches mouth.
Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Calls Out His Team for Lacking the Effort Required to Win
After this loss to the B's at home, playing in Rogers Arena has become a legitimate liability as the Vancouver Canucks have only won 5 of their last 16 contests.
They have just five wins in 16 games at Rogers Arena, with a 5-7-4 home-ice record. That puts them tied with the Anaheim Ducks, Nashville Predators, and St. Louis Blues for the fewest home-ice wins in the NHL. -Beggs
Tocchet decided that he was going to be transparent with the media in his post-game press conference, saying there are certain players on the team who are not invested into the games at home, and that their lack of effort is apparent to everyone around them.
«Let's face facts. For four or five guys, they're struggling,» Tocchet told reporters post-game. «They're struggling to get emotionally invested in the game, It's the NHL. You have to be jacked up to play the game. You have to be emotionally in the game. Sometimes the guys are taking like, 30 minutes to get in the game, for whatever reason.»
It has come to the point where it is not just evident to Tocchet, but the entire coaching staff that there are greater problems with the offence, especially 5 on 5. As a team on even strength, they have produced the 2nd lowest scoring chances in the NHL, only trailing the Chicago Blackhawks.
«We talked about a certain way we wanted to play against Boston and we didn't do it until maybe the third,» Tocchet said.
«I think that pisses the staff off, because we had a good game plan.»
