The Vancouver Canucks are committing to the rebuild according to GM Patrick Allvin, but in order for it to actually work they will need to trade goaltender Thatcher Demko and Kiefer Sherwood.
Both of which, will bring in a ton of value, and allow the Canucks to acquire all the young talent and draft picks they need to start their new era.
"When it comes to players on their own roster that could be on the move between now and the trade deadline, Drance believes that Kiefer Sherwood will almost certainly net the club a massive return following reports that the Canucks are seeking a first round pick for him."-Jaxon
Vancouver Canucks need to part ways with Thatcher Demko and Kiefer Sherwood.
Jacob Punturi of Breakway SI reported on the next steps the Canucks need to take in order to get the most out of their rebuild. They cannot be half committed to it, they need to offload all their players that carry a lot of value, right now that's Demko and Sherwood.
"When he's healthy, he's still an elite goalie. The problem for him, however, has been staying on the ice. Last year, he was limited to just 23 games. This year, he's played only 15 games, but he's posted a goals-against average of 2.46 and a .911 save percentage."-Punturi
Sherwood on the other hand has produced like a top six winger and only getting paid $1.5M AAV, there is very little chance he signs with the Canucks this summer, and they should trade him now while they can get a first round pick out of him. The Canucks cannot afford half measures with this rebuild, or history will just repeat itself. It's unfortunate the current core did not workout, but they need to accept it and move on.
