The Canucks took strong turns and a multitude of very different roads to get where they are today. Looking back with hindsight, it's now much easier to identify the moves, trades, signings and draft selections that built them into the Stanley Cup contending that they are today.

June 22nd, 2019, is one of those days. Jim Benning pulled a transaction with the Tampa Bay Lightning that could end up going down in history as the biggest Canucks trade steal. The Canucks ended up giving up three draft picks for a young 26-year-old forward who had not broken out yet.

2019-Jun-22 Traded from Tampa Bay Lightning to Vancouver Canucks for Marek Mazanec, round 3 pick in the 2019 draft (Hugo Alnefelt) and round 1 pick in the 2020 draft (Shakir Mukhamadullin)

Just like his potential suggested, he flourished into the Canucks' top scorer ever since he stepped foot in Vancouver. As he now leads the Canucks through the second round, a former teammate of his, Brandon Sutter addressed how he change the mood for the Canucks and how good of a player he is for them at the moment:

"That was the year things kind of turned around for us. We got him and Tyler Myers the same year. We just got a little bit better...he plays to win...you want a guy that's gonna go after it." #Canucks

With 6 points in 6 games during the first round, the veteran number 9 will be looking to expand his game to the next level. Facing off with two of the world's best players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, this challenge is going to be next level for Miller and his troops.

Are they ready for the second round?
