Trade pitch between the Canucks and Sabres makes strong case for Owen Power landing in Vancouver
A trade proposal has emerged this week with the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks that would see General Manager Patrik Allvin land a former first overall pick.
After placing all of their pending unrestricted free agents, and some veteran players, on the National Hockey League's trade block in recent weeks, the Vancouver Canucks are expected to be one of the more active teams leading up to the deadline as Patrik Allvin & Jim Rutherford look to ways to make their roster younger.
"Use whatever word people like, whether it's somewhat of a rebuild, not a full blown rebuild, but a rebuild-retool, whatever. It's the position we've been in since the J.T. Miller trade." Jim Rutherford said about the direction the Vancouver Canucks are heading in.
With that said, the Vancouver Canucks are now targeting players that can fit in age-wise for their rebuild, specifically early-to-mid 20s that'll be entering their prime by the time their next competitive window opens and in a recent article for ESPN and interesting trade was proposed with the Buffalo Sabres.
Trade proposal sees Vancouver Canucks land former first overall pick from Buffalo Sabres
Once the National Hockey League's holiday freeze concludes next weekend, trade talks will begin picking up and with a little over two months to go until the deadline, along with an Olympic break thrown in too, we could see quite a few moves completed early on in the New Year.
Rachel Kryshak of ESPN recently shared six trades that teams around the National Hockey League should make after the holiday roster freeze and one of them includes the Vancouver Canucks & Buffalo Sabres.
Kryshak's proposed trade would see the Vancouver Canucks acquire 2021 first overall pick Owen Power and 2020 eighth overall pick Jack Quinn in exchange for pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood, along with Conor Garland and Nils Hoglander.
"Vancouver Canucks get:
D Owen Power, F Jack Quinn
Buffalo Sabres get:
F Kiefer Sherwood, F Conor Garland, F Nils Hoglander.
The feeling is that new Sabres GM Jarmo Kekalainen might want to move off Owen Power's deal and bring in some established veterans who bring a different dynamic to a Sabres team with tons of skill. Vancouver needs young skill in the lineup, and both Power and Quinn fit that profile." Kryshak said.

Quinn would be an excellent addition to the Vancouver Canucks' middle-six forward group, while Owen Power is in need of a fresh start and hasn't lived up to the expectations that come with being a first overall pick in the National Hockey League.
The proposed trade would also give the Vancouver Canucks an opportunity to get even younger, while Sherwood, Garland and Hoglander would be able to help the Buffalo Sabres push for a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, with the club sitting six points back of the Philadelphia Flyers as of Saturday morning.
