An NHL insider has revealed when the Vancouver Canucks could potentially trade Conor Garland, with the forward's new contract extension set to kick in next season.
The Vancouver Canucks are gearing up for what many expect will be busy trade deadline for Patrik Allvin as the club is in the early stages of their rebuild, which was confirmed by the GM, as well as President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford earlier this month.
So far, the Canucks have made two significant deals, the first saw them trade captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in mid-December, while the second, nearly a week ago now, had their top pending free agent Kiefer Sherwood heading south to the San Jose Sharks.
There's been plenty of rumors involving members of the Vancouver Canucks, even with forward Conor Garland, who signed a six-year extension with the club last summer.
"They have 100 percent called on both players. They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise." A source told RG Media's Jimmy Murphy in late-November about the Boston Bruins' interest in Conor Garland.

After initiating their plans to rebuild, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford revealed that the club is willing to listen to offers on any player on their roster, including someone like Conor Garland, who has been a key piece to the organization since arriving in the Lower Mainland in the summer of 2021.
"We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we're not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts." Rutherford said.
Garland is drawing interest around the league, which isn't a surprise, even in a down year, but it remains unclear if the Vancouver Canucks will actually move him prior to 12 p.m. PT on Friday, March 6th.
NHL insider Chris Johnston said on his podcast on Thursday that with Conor Garland's contract extension, trade talks involving the Scituate, Massachusetts native might be punted to the offseason.
"There's certainly teams that like that player, but it's a lot to consider bringing on at this stage, maybe that becomes a summer trade target." Johnston said.
The 29-year-old would be a solid top-nine option for any contending team, but with several of them not having a ton of cap space, it might be a bit tricky to not only find a landing spot for Garland, but also find someone who's willing to give the Canucks a fair package in return.
