The Vancouver Canucks are having a rough season so far, while it's not time to throw in the towel, it's natural to start thinking about getting a high draft pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, and the Canucks should go after Tynan Lawrence of the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
Jim Rutherford has spoken about making the Canucks younger, and drafting top picks is the one way to get there.
"In a report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Monday indicated that the Vancouver Canucks are essentially open for business and are listening to offers on veteran players on their roster, including pending unrestricted free agents."-Jaxon
Vancouver Canucks need to draft top center.
Eric Cruikshank of the Hockey News reported on the where the Canucks stand heading into one of the deeper draft classes in years. The Canucks need all the help they can get up the middle, and it doesn't appear that help is going to come this year. But it could help with Tynan Lawrence.
"Tynan Lawrence plays a type of game that would impact the Canucks immediately. He's a committed defensive forward capable of making an impact in all on-ice situations, being deployed on the penalty kill and on the power play with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL."-Cruikshank
Lawrence isn't just good defensively he drives the play, and extremely creative off the rush. Something the Canucks desperately need, as they were 31st in rush offence and 31st in zone entries last season. And that area wasn't addressed at all heading into this season.
"Lawrence was put on a lot of people's radars after he recorded 56 points in 54 games as a 16-year-old rookie with the Lumberjacks of the USHL in 2024-25. He also played an integral role during the team's championship run, putting up 18 points in 14 games to earn the Clark Cup MVP award."-Cruikshank
Lawrence is the player who can turn a franchise around, and the Canucks are desperate need of being turned around. It may take some time but Lawrence would definitely make an impact.
