Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils lining up January trade that changes everything for Patrik Allvin
A bold prediction from Sportsnet this week sees General Manager Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks complete a trade in 2026 with an Eastern Conference club.
The Vancouver Canucks have found themselves in the thick of trade rumors over the last month, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone given where the club is in the National Hockey League's overall standings.
Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford executed the first step of their "hybrid retool" plan earlier this month when they dealt captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, with several other teams in the mix leading up to the trade.
Among those that made an offer for Quinn Hughes was the New Jersey Devils as they wanted to united him with his two brothers, but with Tom Fitzgerald coming up short, could we see the two teams comes together to complete a trade in the New Year?

Beyond the New Jersey Devils wanting to unite the three Hughes brothers, the club has other areas they need to address in the lead up to the trade deadline in early March and it looks like the Vancouver Canucks could be a perfect partner for them.
In a recent article for Sportsnet where he shares his bold predictions for 2026, Ryan Dixon has the Vancouver Canucks dealing pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood to the New Jersey Devils.
"The Canucks and Devils will hook up for a non-Hughes trade in January when Kiefer Sherwood is sent east to Jersey. " Dixon said.
There's no question that the New Jersey Devils will be one of the teams in the mix for Kiefer Sherwood in the weeks to come and quite frankly, he'd be a really good fit in The Garden State.
However one question remains - will the New Jersey Devils, or any team for that matter, want to part with a first round pick AND another asset for Kiefer Sherwood, who might only be with the club for two-three months at most?
That's Vancouver's reported asking price and with the way Kiefer Sherwood has played since arriving in the Lower Mainland ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, there's no reason why Patrik Allvin can't get that return before 12 p.m. PT on March 6th.
