It's going to be quite an interesting summer in Vancouver as Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford try to make some key additions to the team's roster in order to avoid missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive season.
President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford
promised last week that the team will be aggressive in the summer and there are several ways the team can accomplish that, one avenue being the trade market, especially if they want to make a big splash.
Anaheim Ducks star named as potential trade target for Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks
have been linked to a number of players in recent weeks as they search for upgrades at the second line center hole and potentially a top-six winger as well, if they were to lose
Brock Boeser to unrestricted free agency on July 1st, which is almost a guarantee at this point.
In a recent article for
Daily Hive, Noah Strang took a look at some potential trade targets that the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin could take a look at this summer and among the options mentioned is
Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks.
"Zegras' doubters will point to his flashy play style and say that's not how you win in the NHL, especially when the playoffs roll around. However, there's no doubt that Zegras is exceptionally skilled and has tons of potential. It'd be a risky trade but one that could pay off for the Canucks." Strang said.
Zegras, 24, had plenty of hype surrounding him as he entered the National Hockey League during the 2020-21 season and after back-to-back years with 60+ points, his production has dropped off as he's dealt with a number of injuries.
The Bedford, New York native has some of the best hands in the entire NHL and certainly has the talent and potential to be a legit top-six forward but it might be in the best interest for him and the Anaheim Ducks to go their separate ways this summer.
If that's the case, Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks should absolutely pick up the phone and give Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek a call to see what it would cost to bring the 2019 ninth overall pick to British Columbia.
Zegras has one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $5.75 million and is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights on July 1st, 2026.
