As the Vancouver Canucks search for some big veteran names to join new head coach Adam Foote on his quest to lead the Canucks to a Stanley Cup, it is proving harder that previously thought as one name was just taken off the market.
He subsequently joined his old team the Philadelphia flyers as their new bench boss, opening the door for the team to promote assistant coach Adam Foote to the big job.
Top assistant coach gets taken off the board for the Vancouver Canucks
It was reported that with John Tortorella being fired, interim head coach Brad Shaw was a going to be a hot target this offseason for team looking to add some vetaran voices int he room.
This rang true more so for the Canucks as they have a first time head coach Adam Foote taking over.
Unfortunately, the team lost the chance to scoop him as he signed with the new Jersey Devils.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Shaw, 61, will be joining former Toronto Maple Leafs bench boss Sheldon Keefe as an assistant coach on the New Jersey Devils, swapping the Flyers out for a Metropolitan Division rival.
The coaching carousel extends well beyond the Head Coach openings. Lots of team are retooling their staffs. I'm hearing Brad Shaw, former Flyers Asst Coach/Interim HC, is joining the Devils bench.
The Canucks have yet to name any supporting coaches for Foote, but it is now known they are looking for a lot of experience to support and lift up the bench while Foote is navigating his first season behind the bench.
