Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote has made a big announcement regarding injured forward Filip Chytil and when he could return to the lineup.
The Vancouver Canucks came into the 2025-26 season with Filip Chytil as their second line centerman after striking out in the offseason both on the free agent and trade markets.
While Canucks fans were somewhat frustrated with the fact General Manager Patrik Allvin wasn't able to find a suitable option for that second line center role, Filip Chytil performed quite well to start the season, before he suffered yet another concussion on October 19th following a hit from Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson.
"The Capitals forward blindsided Chytil at center ice after the Canucks forward delivered a pass. After review, there was no penalty on the play with the ref's calling the hit 'A good hockey hit'."
The Kromeriz, Czechia native was placed on injured reserve by the Canucks later that week and unfortunately, he hasn't been able to return to game action just yet, but that'll change this weekend.
Vancouver Canucks' Adam Foote makes big announcement on Filip Chytil
In recent weeks, Filip Chytil has Filip Chytil has taken some big steps in his recovery from his concussion, shedding his non-contact sweater at practice earlier this month and even accompanying the club on their six-game road trip.
When speaking with reporters following the team's practice on Thursday, Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote said that things are trending in the right direction for Filip Chytil to make his return to the lineup on Friday against the New Jersey Devils.
"It looks promising. ... As long as today went well, he's going to play," Foote said according to Sportsnet's Brendan Batchelor.
Getting Filip Chytil back in the lineup is a big moment for the Canucks, despite the fact they're well out of the playoff race in the Western Conference and are in the beginning stages of their rebuild.
The hope is that Filip Chytil can finish the season strong, stay healthy and further cement himself as the team's long-term option for the second line center role, which is possible and he's going to be given ample opportunity to do so during the final three months of the 2025-26 campaign.
In six games this season, Chytil has registered three goals, six assists and has an even-rating while averaging 15:38 of ice time per night.
Puck drop for tonight's game between the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils is set for 7 p.m. PT and can be viewed across British Columbia on Sportsnet Pacific.
