Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has a lot to prove this coming season after a down year in 2024-25, but he's very motivated to bounce back in a big way starting this fall.

With a very difficult 2024-25 campaign now in the past, Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is looking ahead to training camp, after being able to train at 100 percent health in the summer for the first time since 2023.
Pettersson registered just 45 points last year for the Canucks, which was the second-lowest single season total of his career, along with the lowest outside of the NHL's covid-shortened campaign in 2021, but he's determined to show everyone that 2024-25 was a fluke and he said he's out for revenge this fall.
"I haven't thought about it, but for myself it's revenge. I'm not happy with last season. I'm trying to lead by example. But I know that I can become a better leader, in that aspect. I'm trying my best, but also trying to get better." Pettersson said.

Vancouver Canucks' Elias Pettersson named as one of five players with most to prove this season

In a recent article on The Hockey News, Julian Gaudio listed Elias Pettersson as one of five centers in the National Hockey League that has a lot to prove entering the 2025-26 season.
"If he can't bounce back this season, serious questions will need to be asked about his future in Vancouver, even though the full no-move clause on his contract kicked in this summer and runs through 2031-32 with an $11.6-million cap hit.

Pettersson possesses a deep offensive toolkit, as well as great defensive instincts, which give him all the makings of a No. 1 center. He's shown he could do it before, but he must prove it once again." Gaudio said.

For the Vancouver Canucks to have any success this season, they're going to need a big bounce back from Elias Pettersson, there's no doubt about that, and in terms of what that should look like - in the range of 85-90 points, at least.
Thankfully, as mentioned, Pettersson is healthy and should be able to contribute on a consistent basis this season for the Canucks, especially with all of the drama, including a feud with J.T. Miller, now behind him.
