Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk took responsibility following Monday evening's loss to former teammate Pius Suter & the St. Louis Blues.

After losing their first road game of the 2025-26 season on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers, the Vancouver Canucks returned home to Rogers Arena for a Thanksgiving matinee as they took on the St. Louis Blues on Amazon Monday Night Hockey.
It wasn't a great game for Adam Foote's group, aside from a two-goal performance from Kiefer Sherwood, with Elias Pettersson starting the season on the wrong foot, registering one shot at five-on-five through three games, but the team's entire top line struggled on Monday.

Vancouver would go on to lose Monday's game by a score of 5 to 2, as former Canuck Pius Suter, who picked up an assist and was a plus-one through 17:05 of ice time, and proved to the club that they probably should've upped their offer to re-sign him earlier in the summer.
After the game, forward Jake DeBrusk spoke with reporters and took full responsibility for Monday's loss, saying that even though they're just three games into the 2025-26 season, he's frustrated with how he's playing and he needs to improve in order to help his time.
DeBrusk added that he feels like he hasn't been apart of much in the first three games, despite putting up two assists thus far, adding that he can't allow himself to have a performance like Monday again this season.
"Every team, your first line is supposed to be your best line. I take pride in that, and we haven't been. I feel it the most. Saying that, we're chasing the game a lot. That means that the forecheck isn't great, which is my responsibility, and our neutral zone and our breakouts aren't that great. It's a group of five, honestly." DeBrusk said.

He added, "I've just got to find my game. You know, it's three games in, but it's frustrating, to be honest with you. I think at the end of the day. . . I've got to be a threat out there. I feel like I haven't really been a part of anything. That's my fault, I have to be better on that and can't allow that to happen anymore."

Thankfully for Jake DeBrusk, it's very early as there's still 79 games to go this season and there's no doubt it's going to get better for him in the weeks ahead as he looks to get back to the player he was last year when he set a new career-high in goals with 28.
DeBrusk and the Canucks will look to snap their two-game losing streak on Thursday night as they take on the Dallas Stars on Sportsnet One at 5 p.m. PT.
