Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin could target a former top prospect of the Los Angeles Kings this summer, if he hits the open market this summer on Canada Day.

When Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford promised that the team would be aggressive this summer, it opened up endless opportunities for them on the free agent and trade markets, with a handful of holes they need to fill on their NHL roster.
A second line centerman, top-six winger and potentially a veteran depth defenseman are areas that the Vancouver Canucks need to address this summer, but could they also take a look at a former top prospect that is still looking to break out in the NHL?

In the weeks ahead, the Vancouver Canucks will have a list of players that they would like to target through free agency and trade and that'll only grow once official word is given on who is and isn't available.
As Patrik Allvin evaluates his options, it looks like a former top prospect of the Los Angeles Kings will be hitting the free agent market on Tuesday, July 1st at 9 am PT.
In an article on Blue Line Station, Jennifer Streeter believes that it would probably be in the best interest of the New York Rangers to not issue Arthur Kaliyev a qualifying offer, which would make the pending RFA forward an unrestricted free agent.
Streeter says that claiming Arthur Kaliyev off waivers in early January didn't work out so well for the New York Rangers, putting up four points in 14 games before suffering a season-ending upper-body injury during a game against the Winnipeg Jets on March 11th.
"Neither his shots or push for scoring chances were spectacular. In his 14 games he had a 47.48 expected goals for percentage, and a 48.68 Corsi for percentage according to Evolving-Hockey, and that suggests more often than not he was chasing play as opposed to driving it." Streeter said.

She added, "If General Manager and President Chris Drury decides to let Kaliyev enter unrestricted free agency, the loss of a player who didn't do much more than skate for 14 games wouldn't impact the Blueshirts much at all moving forward."

It's hard to call Arthur Kaliyev a reclamation project at this stage in his career, because he's still young and developing, but if he were to hit the open market, he could be a cheap depth option for Patrik Allvin to consider this summer.
Kaliyev, a native of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has 75 points (38 goals, 37 assists), 65 penalty minutes and is a minus-ten in 202 games for the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers.
