Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote shared details recently of a meeting he held in the last couple of months with his team's leadership group.

The Vancouver Canucks are coming off a difficult 2024-25 campaign as they missed out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in the last five seasons, leading many to believe change would be on the horizon.
There certainly was some change in the last couple of months, with Adam Foote being promoted to the Head Coaching role as Rick Tocchet's replacement and on Wednesday, lost Pius Suter, who signed a two-year deal with the St. Louis Blues.
With the majority of Vancouver's changes now completed, including a surprising long-term deal for Brock Boeser on Tuesday, the Canucks have plenty of work to do on the ice in September to prepare for the 2025-26 season, one that everyone hopes will feature a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Adam Foote details meeting he held with Vancouver Canucks' leadership group

In a recent interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote opened up about a meeting he held with the team's leadership group shortly after he was promoted.
Foote revealed that the meeting included Elias Pettersson, who flew to Detroit from Sweden, along with Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko where they discussed a number of different things he wants to see during the 2025-26 campaign, including holding each other accountable.
"It's not magic dust; it is a process. That group, the leadership group ... they're going to take care of themselves. It's their room, right? They've got to hold each other accountable. They've got to push each other." Foote said to Iain MacIntyre.

He went on to add, "They've got to take care of each other and make sure that they support each other. Like, there shouldn't be a young guy that sits in his room alone after he's called up. They've got to take care of that guy. If a guy's not pushing the pace in practice, well, you push each other."

While it may be his first time as a bench boss in the National Hockey League, Adam Foote has a ton of experience and knowledge that he brings to the group and there's familiarity with the current roster from his previous role as Assistant Coach over the last three season.
Hopefully for Adam Foote, everyone will buy in right from the start of training camp, no matter if you're a player like Elias Pettersson, who is earning $11.6 million US or someone like Nils Aman, who makes $825,000.
No matter how good you are or how much you're paid, everyone needs to earn their role on the roster and for guys like Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Thatcher Demko and others who have been around for a long time, they need to step up in a big way this coming season to ensure they don't miss out on another opportunity to make the postseason.
