An analyst believes that the Vancouver Canucks are trapped are giving out contract extensions earlier this week to Thatcher Demko, Brock Boeser and Conor Garland.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin was among the more active General Managers on the opening day of free agency in the National Hockey League, much to the delight of the team's fan base.
Allvin was able to give Thatcher Demko a three-year contract extension, a six-year extension for Conor Garland, and and to the surprise of many in the hockey world locked up Brock Boeser to a seven-year deal worth $7.25 million annually.
Despite being active on July 1st to keep his current core intact for the foreseeable future, one former NHLer doesn't think the team knows which direction they're heading in or where they should be going.

Analyst says Vancouver Canucks are "trapped" after recent contract signings

On Tuesday's edition of Kyper and Bourne on Sportsnet 590 radio, shortly after the signings of Boeser, Demko and Garland, Justin Bourne shared his thoughts on the current state of the Vancouver Canucks.
Bourne believes that the Vancouver Canucks seemed trapped at the moment and that their direction is unclear, while adding that the three-year term for Thatcher Demko was puzzling because he someone you'd want around for at least six-years, if he's at full health.
"I think that says a lot about what people think about his health. If he was halfway predicted to be healthy, he's a guy you'd want to lock up for six years, twice the term, at a pretty reasonable hit for a guy who I believe is one of the five or ten best goalies in the NHL," Bourne said.

He added, "The Canucks seem trapped right now. They don't know what they are or what they want to be,"
As was the case before the 2023-24 season, the Vancouver Canucks had a lot of people doubting them and it's no different this year either and if everyone on the roster is at 100 percent health, including Demko and Elias Pettersson, there's no question that they should be able to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next April.
