It's not everyday an NHL team trades their captain, but that's what happened yesterday for the Vancouver Canucks as they traded Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, head coach Adam Foote expressed how tough it is to lose your captain.

Even though there was a lot of drama leading up to the trade, Hughes' time in Vancouver was memorable, a Norris winner and one of the best players the Canucks have ever had.
"Regardless of return, Quinn Hughes' time in Vancouver will be cherished for years to come and although fans will miss seeing him play every single night, we are sure most will wish him nothing but the best on this next chapter with the Wild."-Mitchell

Thomas Drance on X posted a quote from Foote, speaking on how much he enjoyed working with Hughes, and how hard it is to see him go.
Even though you know it might be coming, it's tough when your captain gets traded,» says Adam Foote who noted that he loved working with Quinn Hughes over the past years. #Canucks"-
The past few months have been riddled with rumours on Hughes' trade possibility, while Patrick Allvin and Jim Rutherford made it clear he wouldn't be traded, the unthinkable happened and Hughes is now a member of the Wild.
The Wild came out of nowhere to acquire him as it was rumoured the New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers were in the mix.
Vancouver received a healthy return of Marco Rossi, Zeev Biuum, Liam Ohmgren and a first round pick. It's still too early to tell if these young players will end up being good enough to justify the trade.
But there was zero chance Hughes was re-signing in Vancouver, meaning the trade was justified and the Canucks need to move on from the Hughes era. Only time will tell what this means for the franchise moving forward.
