Vancouver Canucks Make Questionable Jump In Recent NHL Power Rankings
The Vancouver Canucks have jumped in recent a power rankings list released by the National Hockey League.
We're officially in the second month of action for the 2024-25 National Hockey League season and there's been some surprises to say the least since puck dropped here in North America back on October 8th.
For the Vancouver Canucks, their start to the new campaign has been pretty good as they have points in seven of nine games played so far and sit third in the Pacific Division.
Vancouver Canucks make slight jump in NHL.com power rankings
Last week, the Vancouver Canucks made their season debut on NHL.com's Super 16 - a weekly power rankings list that takes a look at the best 16 teams in the National Hockey League over the past seven days.
For last week's ranking, Rick Tocchet's group were ranked 12th by NHL.com and since then, the Canucks have gone 1-1-1, with their lone win coming last Saturday at Rogers Arena against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
On Thursday evening, the reporters at NHL.com decided to give the Vancouver Canucks a slight bump in the rankings from 12th to 11th, but for this week's edition, they focused on European players because of the NHL's Global Series returning this afternoon in Finland.
"There are surprisingly few European players on the Canucks roster, which is what makes this so easy. It's Elias Pettersson, the native of Sundsvall, Sweden. It hasn't been the start to the season that either Pettersson or the Canucks would like, but the forward's talent is undeniable. He has four points (one goal, three assists) in nine games entering after scoring 89 points last season and 102 in 2022-23. He can make plays and score goals, and there's hope that the slow start will be just a memory as the season picks up." Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com said. With a three-game road trip kicking off tomorrow night, the Vancouver Canucks will have another opportunity to make a jump in the power rankings for next week's Super 16. The Canucks will begin the road trip in San Jose on Saturday before heading to Anaheim on Tuesday night and Los Angeles next Thursday.
