The Vancouver Canucks organization has announced a roster move this week involving goaltending prospect Ty Young, who has had a tough start to the season in Abbotsford (AHL).
Goaltending has been a bit of an issue throughout the Vancouver Canucks organization, with injuries and poor performances continuing to cause problems in the American Hockey League and the ECHL.
Due to those aforementioned injury issues, the Vancouver Canucks have been forced to make quite a few roster moves involving goaltenders within the last month as Nikita Tolopilo, who was Abbotsford's projected starter coming into the season, currently up with the big club in the NHL and is thriving.
With Jiri Patera now back in the American Hockey League to form a tandem with Finnish netminder Aku Koskenvuo, it leaves 21-year-old Ty Young as the odd man out and on Monday, the Canucks organization announced a roster move involving the 2022 fifth round pick.

On Monday, the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings announced in a press release that goaltender Ty Young has been assigned to them by the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
"The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, announced Monday that Vancouver (NHL) has re-assigned goaltender Ty Young from Abbotsford (NHL) to Kalamazoo." the Wings said.
Young, a native of Coaldale, Alberta, made his professional hockey debut last October with the Kalamazoo Wings and went on to appear in 22 games for them during his rookie campaign where he sported a 2.53 goals against average and .926 save percentage.
Despite a successful first year in professional hockey, his sophomore campaign has been the complete opposite as Young has a 0-7-0 record in seven games with Abbotsford, along with a 4.75 goals against average and a save percentage of .840.
Regardless of Young's performances, him being sent down to ECHL Kalamazoo was inevitable, especially with Thatcher Demko set to return to the crease in Vancouver on Thursday, which will likely force Nikita Tolopilo back to Abbotsford.
Young's first game of the 2025-26 season with the Kalamazoo Wings is expected to come tomorrow night as they host the Bloomington Bison for a 4 p.m. PT puck drop (7 p.m. local).
