Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson handed suspension by OHL
Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson has been handed a multi-game suspension by the Ontario Hockey League.
We're still pretty early on in the season across the Canadian Hockey League, with several Vancouver Canucks prospects in action over the last week, including Riley Patterson, who's in the OHL with the Barrie Colts.
Patterson and the Colts hosted Canucks prospect
Anthony Romani and the North Bay Battalion last Saturday where the 2024 fourth-rounder found himself in trouble quite quickly.
Early on in the first period of last Saturday's game, Patterson was chasing down the puck in the Battalion zone. Battalion defenceman Wyatt Kennedy moved the puck to his teammate quickly, when Patterson comes barreling in and appears to use his leg to take out his opponent.
The official standing right by the incident called a penalty almost immediately and upon review, Riley Patterson was handed a five-minute match penalty for a slew-foot.
Over the next couple of days, the Ontario Hockey League took a loot at the play and determined it was worthy of supplemental discipline, suspending Riley Patterson for two games.
Patterson served the first game of his suspension on Thursday night as the Barrie Colts hosted the Brampton Steelheads. The Colts would go on to lose the game by a score of 4 to 1 and will be back in action on home ice tomorrow night against Sudbury.
The 18-year-old Burlington native will be eligible to return to the Colts' lineup on Sunday evening as they head to Oshawa to take on the Generals in a battle between two teams projected to be near the top of the Eastern Conference standings when all is said and done.
So far through two games this season, Patterson has been held point-less, but there's no need to panic, as once he gets clicking with his linemate and Utah Hockey Club first-rounder
Cole Beaudoin, they'll become one of the more dominate duos in the Ontario Hockey League.
