The Vancouver Canucks have received some good news recently in regards to forward Kiefer Sherwood's value on the National Hockey League's trade market.
Once Patrik Allvin made the club's pending unrestricted free agents available for trade, one name that began drawing the most interest was forward Kiefer Sherwood, with at least six teams in the mix for his services according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen.
"The Ottawa Citizen's Bruce Garrioch reports that six NHL teams have "kicked the tires" on a trade for Sherwood:
Boston Bruins Dallas Stars New York Islanders Ottawa Senators Philadelphia Flyers Tampa Bay Lightning" Billy Heyen of The Sporting News said.
Vancouver Canucks receive good news regarding Kiefer Sherwood's value on trade market
Before the NHL's holiday roster freeze went into effect at midnight on Saturday, a pair of trades went down with the Montreal Canadiens bringing back centerman Phillip Danault in a deal with the Los Angeles Kings, while the Mason Marchment experiment in Seattle came to a close as the Kraken shipped him to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The return in both trades was very interesting as Montreal gave up a 2026 second round pick to acquire Danault, while Seattle received a second round pick in 2027 and a fourth rounder in June's draft.
"And, if the Marchment and Danault trades taught Canucks fans anything, it's that Sherwood should be worth a first-round pick. Whether a team actually parts with one is another question.
If the Canucks are gunning for a first-rounder, they might be wise to target a team that holds multiple first-round picks in this year's draft. Two teams that have previously been linked to Sherwood, the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders, meet that criteria." Beggs said.
Sherwood, a native of Columbus, Ohio, heads into the NHL's holiday break as the Vancouver Canucks' leading goal scorer with 16 in 36 games, seven more than Jake DeBrusk and Brock Boeser, who are tied for second on the team.
If Kiefer Sherwood is able to play with the level of consistency he had throughout the month of October, there should be no reason for the Vancouver Canucks to not receive at least a first round pick in return for him before the deadline in early March.
