Vancouver Canucks Surprisingly Place Key Forward on Waivers
Less than 24 hours after their eventful Friday full of trades, the Vancouver Canucks have made a pair of roster moves to make room for the players they acquired.
As the Vancouver Canucks returned home from their road trip with Marcus Pettersson,
Filip Chytil and
Drew O'Connor as new members of the NHL roster, the team needed to make some room for those players.
In a post on social media on Saturday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've placed forward Phillip Di Giuseppe on waivers, while assigning Finnish rookie
Aatu Raty to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
If Di Giuseppe clears waivers at 11 am PT on Sunday, which is the most likely scenario, he'll also be assigned to Abbotsford of the AHL.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Phillip Di Giuseppe has been placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Abbotsford (AHL) and Aatu Raty has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL)." the Canucks said.
Di Guiseppe, 31, has appeared in 20 games this season for the Vancouver Canucks where he's put up six points (one goal, five assists), four penalty minutes and is a minus-two.
The Toronto, Ontario native is in the final year of his contract, that comes with a $775,000 cap hit, and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
As for Aatu Raty, a native of Oulu, Finland, he's been lights out down in the American Hockey League, registering 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 23 games, while tallying four points in 22 contests for Vancouver.
The roster moves today will allow for those acquired yesterday - Marcus Pettersson, Drew O'Connor and Filip Chytil, to be on the active roster in time for Sunday's game against the Detroit Red Wings at 5 pm PT.
