Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet Set to be Fired? Why It Won't Happen This Season
Between injuries, disappointing play from a variety of players and locker room drama, the Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 season has been a let down so far.
Although Tocchet won the Jack Adams award as top head coach in the league just one year ago, there have been some calls on social media to make a change behind the bench for the Canucks.
A head coaching change is normally an easier change to make than an impactful trade, but the Vancouver Canucks current core has already been through two other head coaches in Bruce Boudreau and Travis Green, and it could be argued that they shouldn't be given yet another chance to start from scratch.
If the
issues in the locker room that seem to be impacting both of the team's two main offensive stars aren't solved either internally or by trade, it won't matter who is behind the bench.
Finances a consideration for Vancouver Canucks
While it shouldn't be the main concern for the team, the Canucks - and specifically owner Francesco Aquilini - will be reluctant to fire a coach still under contract and have to pay two coaches at the same time after finding a replacement.
The Canucks have found themselves in that position twice since 2021 after firing both Travis Green and his successor Bruce Boudreau.
The season has been a far cry from Tocchet's first with the Canucks, but an in season firing is unlikely to solve the issues plaguing the team.
