The city of Vancouver, British Columbia has officially been named the new home of a professional hockey team starting in the fall for the 2025-26 campaign.

There's no question that Vancouver and all of British Columbia loves their hockey, whether that's the Canucks, Abbotsford Canucks or any of the Western Hockey League teams that call the province home.
Late last week, a report came out stating that Vancouver was set to get a new professional hockey team starting next season and it looks that has come to fruition.

Vancouver, British Columbia granted PWHL expansion franchise

On Wednesday morning, the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) announced at a press conference that Vancouver, British Columbia has been granted an expansion franchise and will be their seventh team, joining their original six of Boston, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Ottawa and Toronto.
"This is a historic day for our league, our fans, our athletes, and our sport. Vancouver is a vibrant city with a deep love for the game-as we saw firsthand during the PWHL Takeover Tour earlier this season. Expanding to Vancouver reflects the growing momentum behind the league and the incredible passion of our fanbase since launching in January 2024. We're proud to bring the PWHL to the West Coast and provide more fans with the opportunity to experience live the best women's hockey players in the world." PWHL Executive Vice President of Business Operations Amy Scheer said.

During today's announcement, the PWHL shared a number of details regarding Vancouver's franchise including that they will be playing at Pacific Coliseum and practicing at PNE Agrodome, both of which will be undergoing upgrades to locker rooms and training facilities in the months ahead.
Until a permanent identity is found, the team will be called "PWHL Vancouver", with their primary and secondary colours being Pacific Blue and Cream, respectively.
More details are expected in the next few weeks as to how PWHL Vancouver will fit into the league's Entry Draft, which is set for late-June, as well as an Expansion Draft.
"This is an incredibly exciting moment for Vancouver and for the future of professional women's sports in our city. We're proud to welcome the PWHL to the Pacific Coliseum and thrilled that Vancouver fans will get to cheer on some of the best female athletes in the world. The passion for women's hockey is growing, and today's announcement shows that Vancouver is ready to lead that charge on the West Coast." Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said.

PWHL Vancouver is set to be the first professional women's hockey team in the city since the Vancouver Griffins, who played in the NWHL from 2000 to 2003.
