Western Conference Powerhouse Linked to Acquiring Vancouver Canucks' Defenseman Carson Soucy
A Western Conference powerhouse has emerged as a potential landing spot for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy.
In early February,
a report came out that said the Vancouver Canucks have made defenseman Carson Soucy available for trade, but there hasn't been much movement on that front over the last few weeks.
Western Conference Stanley Cup contender linked to Carson Soucy
The Fourth Period recently released their updated Trade Watch list for the 2024-25 season and in there, Carson Soucy was linked to the Winnipeg Jets, who currently lead the Western Conference and NHL standings.
Soucy is reportedly willing to waive his no-trade clause to accommodate a move, according to The Fourth Period, with his agent Gerry Johannson reportedly helping in the process.
"Soucy is the odd-man out in Vancouver, and even with a full no-trade clause, he knows his time with the Canucks is limited. He's willing to waive his NTC and accept a trade for the right environment and his agent is helping the process. We'll see where this ends up by the deadline.
Teams Reportedly Linked: Winnipeg, Calgary." The Fourth Period said.
The Viking, Alberta native has appeared in 57 games this season, which is his second as a Vancouver Canucks, registering nine points (two goals, seven assists), 42 penalty minutes and was a minus-15.
Soucy has one year remaining on his contract following the 2024-25 season and comes with a cap hit of $3.25 million and in 2025-26, his full no-trade clause will turn into a modified one with a 12-team no-trade list.
If the Jets were able to swing a deal for Carson Soucy before March 7th, he would bring some much needed depth and a veteran presence to their blue line and would likely slot in on Winnipeg's third pairing, ahead of
Logan Stanley.
We'll have to wait and see where things go before the trade deadline and if anymore suitors emerge for Carson Soucy, but with some contenders tight to the cap, it could get tricky to bring him aboard.
