'Too Hard on Him' - Former Canucks Teammate Reveals How J.T. Miller Treats Elias Pettersson & It's Not Good
The rift between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson is not a shock to anyone anymore, as the Canucks have become basically a reality T.V. show for the entire league to watch and comment on.
Even head coach Rick Tocchet and Captain Quinn Hughes have opened up about the two superstars and their dislike for one another.
«It's my job to make sure that, you know, guys have a voice and you move on from certain stuff. But, you also need to be mature, too. You don't have to play PlayStation together or go to dinner together, but [if] it's your turn to go to the net, go to the net. It's really what it comes down to."
Brad Richardson comments on how J.T. Miller treated Elias Pettersson when they were teammates
In this ongoing feud, it appears that the Canucks fan base is split among choosing sides between Miller and Pettersson, but recent comments by former teammate Brad Richardson is revealing a lot into the tensions we are hearing about.
On the most recent episode of the popular hockey podcast Missin Curfew, Richardson, who played with both Miller and EP40 disclosed that Miller did not treat Elias Pettersson that well when he joined the Canucks, saying he was extremely hard and demanding of him, and that he felt it was too much.
«I was in that dressing room with those guys. I love J.T.,» Richardson said. «But I even told him, I said 'You're too hard on this kid. You're too hard on him. You're saying exactly what I think, but he's a kid that when you're on him [too much], he's going to shut it down.' I told him 'Hey, you're gonna lose this guy if you keep doing it.' That's what I said to him.
«J.T., he's the man. But there is a lot of tension and something's gonna give. I guarantee you. I'm not saying you gotta love every guy on your team [but] it helps. But something's gonna give there.»
Not saying Pettersson has played a role in this, but it really appears that a lot of the issues are stemmed from Miller and his inability to give guys a break when they need, which was apparent from Richardson who only played 17 games with them.
