BREAKING | Patrik Allvin releases official statement regarding Oliver Ekman-Larsson
The information had been released earlier today. The Canucks made it official when they confirmed just now, that Patrik Allvin would be buying out the team's number 23, Oliver Ekman Larsson.
OEL was acquire through a blockbuster deal 2 summers ago from the Arizona Coyotes. The defenseman took part in 133 regular season games during which he collected 51 points. Here's the official release from the team:
' General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has bought out defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.'' Patrik Allvin will not be commenting the subject today. However, he did add the following to the team's statement:
' We would like to thank Oliver for the time he spent in Vancouver," said Allvin. "The business of hockey is very complex and tough decisions have to be made if you want to remain competitive. Buying out Oliver gives us a lot more flexibility and cap space the next couple of years and significantly reduces his hit in the subsequent seasons. It is our expectation that following this year, the cap will also raise considerably making this the right time to execute this buyout. Our organization is committed to do whatever it needs to do to improve, get better on and off the ice, and move forward in a positive direction."
The Canucks will be assuming parts of Ekman-Larsson's salary for the next 8 years. The Defenseman will be entering the free-agency market on July 1st.
