Horvat was heading into this season in the final year of his current contract but many believed, myself included, that Horvat would get resigned and would be a Canuck for the rest of his career.
Unfortunately the Canucks decided to use that money for J.T. Miller instead. After Jim Rutherford said he didn't have enough to sign Horvat, the writing was on the walls and Horvat would be traded by the NHL's trade deadline day.
However the Canucks would stun everyone including Horvat, trading him to the New York Islanders just before the All-Star game back in January for Anthony Beauvillier, prospect Aatu Raty, and a top-12 protected first-round pick.
