Even though Hughes has given his fair share of points since the season, he had not found the back of the net since last season.
Hughes finally ended his goal drought last night with a beautiful goal against the Sharks and even though it wasn't his first career goal, team captain Bo Horvat (who already has 26 tallies) made a hilarious comment to the superstar defenseman:
«Bo came up to me and (asked) if I wanted the puck. It's kind of funny, but it's not funny. That shouldn't happen for me but at the same time, sometimes you go through a stretch like that. I felt like I was hitting lots of posts and just not getting the result. I've been happy with my game last 10, 15, 20 games so I've just got to keep that going, and if the results come, great.»
You sense in Hughes' comments that he was eager to find the back of the net, even though he knows he had been playing really well.
The team now has won their 3 last games, 2 of those at the Rogers Arena. Can they build on it to gain the 5 points they need to get to the last wild card spot? With 48 games remaining on the calendar, can Hughes beat his career-high in goals (8)?
