While the New York Rangers are busy with their search for a new Head Coach, General Manager Chris Drury has his hands full trying to lock up to young players who are set to become restricted free agents.
The St. Paul (Minnesota) native had a career-year for the Rangers during the 2022-23 regular season. In 79 games, he put up 43 points (nine goals, 34 assists), 47 penalty minutes and was a plus-12. But during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Miller disappeared, only recording one assist in seven games.
Miller would be a great add to the Canucks roster and would give them another young top-four defenceman. The question is, what would it take salary-wise to get Miller under contract where it's fair for the Canucks but also out of reach for the New York Rangers. Another aspect Patrik Allvin will have to think about is the compensation they would need to give the Rangers if they decided not to match the offer sheet.
Offer sheet compensation is based on the salary offered. So if the Canucks offered Miller anywhere between $4,290,126 to $6,435,186, which is fair market value for the 23-year-old, they would have to give the Rangers a 2024 first-round pick and 2024 third-round pick.
