LATEST | Canucks make an announcement regarding Akito Hirose
In light of their building blue program, the Canucks highlighted another one of their prospects, perhaps the most NHL-ready player of them all. It was first Jonathan Lekkerimaki, then D-Pettey, Cole McWard, and now Akito Hirose is under the spotlight.
The Canucks signed him out of the NCAA, and he filled big shoes right when he entered the line-up. Identified as a modern-day stay-at-home Defenseman, ' he's proven excellent on both sides of the puck. The 6'00 and 170 pounds defenseman from Calgary took part in 7 NHL games, during which he collected 3 assists.
Chris Higgins, assistant director of the Canucks' player development, narrated the prospect's presentation:
'He knows what the standard is. He knows how good the NHL is. That's an invaluable experience for him.''
Hirose is viewed as the potential replacement for Oliver Ekman-Larsson. However, the team will have to get him under contract since he had only signed a deal set to expire on July 1st, 2023.
