According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the salary cap ceiling will be set at $83.5 million USD, which is a $1 million increase from last season's cap.
This news won't sit well with many general managers around the National Hockey League who were hoping for a bigger increase, especially with free agency right around the corner. The salary cap has only gone up by $2 million since the 2020-21 season and that's large in part due to COVID-19 limiting the league's revenue.
Once the players finish their escrow payments to the league, which is expected to come towards the end of the 2023-24 season, then we could see a significant jump in the salary cap, potentially as high as $4-5 million USD.
