MAJOR | Gary Bettman makes an important announcement regarding the 2023-2024 season: Excellent news for Patrik Allvin
The NHL is expecting another bump in the salary cap for next year's 2024-25 season.
Gary Bettman told reporters at the NHL Board of Governors meetings that the cap is expected to jump to $87.7 million next season based on current projections.
That's a jump of $4.2 million following the meagre $1 million bump coming into this season.
The cap remained at $81.5 million from 2019-2020 through 2021-2022 due to the financial implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bettman said the league would likely be looking at close to $6.2 billion USD in revenue leading to the bump.
The cap we're projecting to go up 4.2 million dollars to 87.7, which I think most people will see as good news,
Bettman told reporters.
If the projections hold steady or increase, it will be one of the largest cap jumps the league has experienced since implementing a hard cap.
For the Canucks, the extra cap space will be warmly welcomed to mitigate the increasing cap hit from Oliver Ekman-Larsson's buyout.
