MAJOR | Insider drops a bombshell regarding the Canucks and the top prospect Matvei Michkov
We're now just a few days away from the draft and the suspense is at its highest. The Canucks are currently holding the 11th seed and Patrik Allvin gave a massive update about what his plans were heading into this amateur selection.
The Nucks' GMs talked about his intentions and stated that he was looking into the possibility of moving up in the draft's elite tier. Everybody is well aware that Allvin is a great fan of the Swede centerman Leo Carlsson. however, Rick Dhaliwal wondered if Allvin's GM wouldn't the enigmatic Russian, Matvei Michkov:
In an article released in the Athletic yesterday, it was revealed that the Canucks held Michkov in high-esteem and that they wouldn't be scared to pick up if he ended up being available at that point.
'Multiple industry sources familiar with the matter, who were granted anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly on the subject, indicated to The Athletic this week that the Canucks are high on Michkov. Our sense of the matter is that the club wouldn't be scared off by the uncertainty that surrounds Michkov should the so-called «Russian factor» and the contractual uncertainty cause him to drop down the draft order and be available with the 11th overall pick.''
The Canucks have already pulled a similar moved back in 2019 when they selected Vasily Podkolzin. Viewed as a top prospect, Podkolzin fell in the draft due to his KHL contract. Michkov is most likely the best player not named Connor Bedard, had he not been under contract he for sure would've gone 2nd.
The Canucks will most likely be meeting with the young stud once they get to Nashville, should they consider moving up in the draft to secure him?
