MAJOR | NHL releases an official statement regarding Elias Pettersson
The Canucks were lucky enough to draft a very skilled, yet tiny Swede back in 2017 with their 5th Overall pick. The Canucks were in Anaheim for their 81st tilt of the season and Elias Pettersson was chasing the magic 100th point of his season.
The Ducks took a penalty in the first, which allowed for the Canucks' big guns to get on the powerplay. This powerplay ultimately led to this historical sequence for the Canucks' star centerman. He delivered a magnificent pass to Brock Boeser who had the easy tap-in:
Tonight, not only did Pettersson register his first 100th points season, but he also became the first of the 2017 1st Round draft class to reach that mark. He did so at only 24.
Elias Pettersson has been growing his game ever since he joined the Canucks. He's been excellent and even though Cale Makar and Miro Heiskanen were selected prior to Pettersson, some could argue that the true winners of this draft were the Canucks.
Pettersson became the 11th forward to reach 100 points this year, but only the 5th centerman to do so. Pettersson is also a top-end defensive centerman in the league as he's proven his worth time and time again as a shutdown player and a penalty killer, is it time he starts getting the recognition he deserves as one of the league's top two-way players?
