Things changed drastically when he laced his skates up for the Canucks both in Vancouver and Abbotsford. The left-handed shot defenceman found a niche within the Canucks' organization and was genuinely dominant all year in Abbotsford. Unfortunately, he's been dealing with an injury and has not played since March 23rd.
While in Abbotsford, he collected nothing less than an impressive 49 assists, and 55 points in 49 games. As stated by Jeff Paterson, he still leads all AHL D-man even after being in the NHL for two months.
Wolanin signed a two-year extension earlier in the season for his performances. He also represented Abbotsford at this year's AHL All-Star game. Now the AHL has just announced that Wolanin has been awarded the Eddie Shore award for the AHL's most outstanding defenseman:
Wolanin has now been reunited with his teammates down in Abbotsford in an attempt to bring the Calder Cup home!
