MAJOR | The reason Kyle Dubas was let go has been revealed
Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan met with the media on Friday afternoon just hours after parting ways with the team's General Manager, Kyle Dubas.
During his press conference, Shanahan dropped a bit of bombshell regarding the timeline of events leading up to Kyle Dubas' departure.
Shanahan revealed that he had a shift in thinking while watching Dubas' media availability on Monday and prior to that, the Maple Leafs and Dubas were working on a contract extension.
He added that yesterday, Dubas' representatives approached him with financial details for a new contract for their client and Dubas even reached out to him via email to express his desire to remain with the organization.
It's also being reported that the financial package that Shanahan and MLSE were presented with on Thursday would have made Kyle Dubas the highest paid General Manager in the National Hockey League and that was a route the Maple Leafs weren't comfortable going down and ultimately he was let go.
During his media availability on Monday, Dubas was very open and honest, saying that nothing was off the table in terms of roster moves this summer and that if he wasn't going to remain with the Maple Leafs, he won't jump into a new GM position in the near future as he wants to spend time with his family.
