The hockey world is still continuing to mourn the passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, just over a month since they were tragically struck by a drunk driver in New Jersey.
It's been a tough time for the hockey community and to start the 2024-25 season, all 32 teams around the National Hockey League will be paying tribute to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
On Monday, it was announced by the NHL that all 32 teams will be wearing a helmet decal starting with this Friday's opener in Czechia where the New Jersey Devils take on the Buffalo Sabres and will don them until October 24th when the Los Angeles Kings play their home opener. The decal has a letter 'G' in the middle to signify the Gaudreau's name, flanked by Johnny's number 13 and Matthew's number 21.
For the Vancouver Canucks, this means that they'll first have the decal on their helmet on October 9th when they host the Calgary Flames to kick off their regular season schedule. In total, the Canucks will have wear the helmet decal six times - October 9th, 11th, 15th, 17th, 19th and for the final time, on the 22nd against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily continue to be with the Gaudreau family, as well as Johnny and Matthews friends and teammates at this difficult time.
