Team Canada has issued a big update on captain Sidney Crosby ahead of Friday's semifinal after he left their quarterfinal game on Wednesday with a lower-body injury.
It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but Team Canada was able to pull it out at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan on Wednesday, defeating the Czechs in overtime thanks to Vegas Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner.
Team Canada was less than four minutes away from being eliminated from the tournament, which would've been a bit of an embarrassing moment considering the roster that General Manager Doug Armstrong and his group put together, but Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki stepped up and tipped in a Devon Toews point shot to force overtime.
The Canadians are now guaranteed to play for a medal this weekend, hopefully gold on Sunday morning, however captain Sidney Crosby was forced to leave yesterday's game with a suspected lower-body injury and needed to undergo an MRI to determine the full severity of what he's dealing with.

After Thursday's optional practice, where the majority of the group skates, with the exception of Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand and Cale Makar, Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper gave an update on his captain and his status at the moment.
While Cooper didn't reveal the extent of Sidney Crosby's injury, he said that the captain is day-to-day and could potentially play on Friday against Finland, but understandably, that won't be confirmed until tomorrow morning.
"Jon Cooper says Sidney Crosby has not been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

According to IIHF rules, if Sidney Crosby isn't able to suit up on Friday, Team Canada's coaching staff will need to appoint someone else as their captain for the semifinal, with Connor McDavid being the most likely option for Jon Cooper.
"Jon Cooper emphatic Team Canada hasn’t ruled out Sidney Crosby. Says it’s a day to day situation. If Crosby doesn’t play Friday, Team Canada has to put a ‘C’ on another player. Cooper wouldn’t go there with us, because he’s not ready to rule Crosby out yet." TSN's Pierre LeBrun said.
Everyone knows how important Sidney Crosby is to this team, so hopefully he'll be good to go tomorrow as Canada seeks their third straight trip to the Gold Medal Game at the Winter Olympics during the NHL era.
