Three-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Toews is reportedly 100 percent committed to returning to the NHL next season after a two-year absence.
In the summer of 2023, former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews needed to step away from the game of hockey for health reasons as he was dealing with the effects of Chronic Immune Response Syndrome and long COVID.
During his time away, Toews took a trip to India where he underwent a five-week Ayurvedic detox, which helped him feel a lot better and the 37-year-old and
admitted recently that he misses hockey and wants to return to the NHL.
"Everyone just assumed I was retired, but I think in my mind, I wasn't too sure for a long time. I just needed to not think about it, to just give myself time and space. Now I'm really missing hockey, and I think that's the biggest sign. I really miss the game and feel I have a whole different perspective and a new lease on things." Toews said.
Jonathan Toews "100 percent committed to National Hockey League return
Over the last few months, Toews has been working hard towards a return to professional hockey and skating down in Arizona to get ready if an NHL team came calling and it looks like we will see the future Hall of Famer back on the ice this fall.
According to TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun, Jonathan Toews reached out to his agent Pat Brisson recently to inform him that he is ready and committed to returning to the National Hockey League next season.
LeBrun added that Brisson will be fielding calls from interested teams immediately leading up to the opening of the National Hockey League's free agency window on Tuesday, July 1st, although it's worth noting that given he's a UFA right now, he doesn't have to wait until Canada Day to put pen to paper on a deal for the 2025-26 campaign.
"Jonathan Toews reached out to his agent Pat Brisson yesterday to inform him he's 100 percent committed to coming back to the NHL next season. Just spoke with Brisson, who says he will start taking calls from NHL teams on Toews now leading up to July 1.
Toews, 37, last played in April 2023. He's been working out the last several months to get himself ready for this comeback." LeBrun said on X.
TSN's Darren Dreger shared that the
Winnipeg Jets, Jonathan Toews' hometown team, will certainly be in the mix to sign him in the coming months.
"Toews will have a long list of clubs with interest. The @NHLJets will be front and centre when the time is right. Could be a great fit." Dreger said.
Toews, 37, has appeared in 1,067 career NHL games, all with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he's tallied 883 points (372 goals, 511 assists), 607 penalty minutes and is a plus-148.
During his career thus far, Toews has won the Stanley Cup on three occasions, two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada and was named to the NHL's "100 Greatest Players" list back in 2017 to celebrate the league's centennial and there's no doubt in anyone's mind that when all is said and done, he'll be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
