Tragic accident strikes the NHL: Johnny Gaudreau passes away in horrible accident
Tragic and uneventful news just dropped on the Columbus Blue Jackets and former Calgary Flames star winger Johnny Gaudreau.
Involved in a bycicle accident in Salem, New Jersey at approximately 8 p.m., the star winger Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew passed away in unimaginable circumstances.
The NHL and the Blue Jackets issued statements:
«The National Hockey League family is shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. While Johnny's infectious spirit for the game and show-stopping skills on the ice earned him the nickname 'Johnny Hockey,' he was more than just a dazzling hockey player; he was a doting father and beloved husband, son, brother and teammate who endeared himself to every person fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
Gaudreau was reportedly in New Jersey to celebrate his sister's wedding, which was meant to be held over the weekend.
We wish to send our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences to his friends, family members, wife and kids. The hockey community has united to show its support.
4th round draft selection by the Calgary Flames in 2011, Gaudreau developed into one of the biggest draft steal in modern hockey. After a career high 115 points with the Flames in 2021-2022, he chose a destination closer to home in Columbus. Since then, the Jackets' number 13 collected 74 and 60 points.
