Tragedy strikes the NHL: Mike Meeker has passed at only sixty six
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Pittsburgh Penguins player Mike Meeker, who has died at the age of 66.
Though his NHL career was brief, with just four games played after being drafted 25th overall in 1978, Mike's impact extended far beyond the rink. He enjoyed a diverse playing career, including stints in the NCAA, OHL, AHL, and Sweden. However, his true legacy was forged off the ice, where he became a mentor, coach, and dedicated community volunteer.
Mike Meeker was known for his unwavering commitment to nurturing young athletes, and his influence on those around him was profound. His loss is deeply felt, and his contributions to the hockey community and beyond will be remembered for years to come.
Our deepest condolences go out to Mike Meeker's family, friends, and everyone who knew him. His presence will be greatly missed, and the hockey world has lost a cherished member who left an indelible mark on his community. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
