Utah's owner shares six finalists for team name, voting ends in 2 weeks
Utah's National Hockey League franchise is getting closer to revealing their team name, which they'll go by starting in the 2025-26 season.
In a post on social media, Utah announced that first round of voting for the team's name has now been completed and that six names remain in the running. Those six names are: Blizzard, Hockey Club (HC), Mammoth, Outlaws, Venom and Yeti.
"After 520,000 fan votes, the new Utah NHL franchise is down to 6 potential names
▫️Utah Blizzard
▫️Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC)
▫️Utah Mammoth
▫️Utah Outlaws
▫️Utah Venom
▫️Utah Yeti"
However, as has been mentioned quite a bit since the move from Arizona was announced, the Utah franchise won't be using a team name until the 2025-26 season. It takes quite a while to get branding and uniforms done, sometimes anywhere from 12 to 18 months, and with this move from Arizona happening relatively quickly, it didn't give the NHL or Fanatics enough time to get something ready for the fall.
For their first season, Utah will be wearing uniforms with a temporary logo on the front, with black likely as primary colour for the team's home jersey, as The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta pointed out.
"On Utah: Per their release, their 2024-25 jerseys will have «UTAH» across the front. We'll first see that look at the NHL Draft (June 28) heard it's likely a black jersey.
Once the name has been selected, the logo, mascot, main jerseys, etc. will debut in the 2025-26 season." Pagnotta said.
