The Flames will have to consider going on a fire sale, and if it ends up being the case, big names will be up for grabs. Currently two points away from the Western Conference's last wildcard spot, the next few weeks will determine how things play out.

FLAMES PREPARING TO SELL

On contract years, it's not a surprise that Chris Tanev, Noah Hanifin, and Elias Lindholm's names have already been involved in tons of rumours. One surprising name just landed in the trade conversations, and multiple teams will be interested, that's for sure.

The former Canucks netminder, Jacob Markstrom, has landed on the trade block, and he could become one of the market's hottest commodities soon enough:

‘'Markstrom, 33, is experiencing a notable resurgence this season, making him a prime candidate for teams looking to bolster their goaltending depth. This season, Markstrom has maintained a save percentage of .910 and a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.65, ranking him 20th in the league for GAA. His performance includes 12 wins, highlighting his significant contribution to the Flames this year.''

DRAWING INTEREST FROM MULTIPLE TEAMS?

An impressive number of teams have already clarified that they'd be interested in creating a goaltending switch the closer they get to the playoffs. The New Jersey Devils, the Caroline Hurricanes, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanches are expected to keep their eyes open in that regard.

Markstrom will be under contract for the two seasons following this one at a $6M cap hit, and it's an onerous contract to move, but a reasonable contract for a starting netminder of his stature.
