Three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Jonathan Toews made a lengthy post on his Instagram account on Thursday, thanking the city of Chicago and the fan base for their support over the years.
This had a lot of people thinking that Toews would be retiring from professional hockey, but according to Jay Zawaski of CHGO Blackhawks, the long-time NHLer is not hanging up the skates, however he will NOT be playing in the 2023-24 season and intends to play in 2024-25.
The 35-year-old was limited to only 53 games last season due to the effects of long COVID and chronic immune response syndrome, which caused him to miss the entire 2021 campaign. In those 53 games, Toews had 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists), 43 penalty minutes and was a minus-31.
It'll be interesting to see how free agency unfolds next summer and where Toews will land ahead of the 2024-25 season, if he does decide that he will return, as is expected.
