Dallas Stars Set to Be Punished by the NHL with Major Fine for Breaking CBA Rules During the Holiday Break
The Dallas Stars were definitely on the naughty list this holiday season as the NHL is investigating a breach in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) over the holiday break.
NHL insider and TSN analyst Darren Dreger confirmed that the Dallas Stars will be given a punishment for breaking the CBA for participating in a optional team practice a day after Christmas.
Dreger stated the Stars and the players involved will be handed a steep fine for holding "illegal" team activities on December 26th, which is a direct violation of the CBA between the NHL and NHLPA.
As expected, the Dallas Stars will be fined for violating a CBA agreement that strictly prohibits on-ice activities and travel on specified dates during the holidays. Stars players participated in what was described as an «optional» on Dec. 26th.
Even though the decsion to give a fine is confirmed, the amount is not yet known.
If you take a look at what the Toronto Maple Leaf's received back in 2022 for breaching a similar rule in the CBA, they were fined $100K as the team had its players fly a day earlier to St. Louis on Dec. 26.
Article 16.5 (b)"December 24, Christmas Day, and December 26 shall be off-days for all purposes, including travel, and no Club may request a Player's consent to practice on such days for any reason.
At the end of the day, the Dallas Stars may appeal the ruling by the NHLPA, but it is clear cut that the rule is in place for a reason, and they willingly broke it.
