The Vancouver Canucks' top unrestricted free agent target, Jack Roslovic, spoke on Friday about his decision to sign with the team's biggest rival this week.

After going unsigned all summer long and even as the 2025-26 season began, forward Jack Roslovic - Vancouver's top free agent target - finally found his new club this week as he agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
"The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday they have agreed to terms with forward Jack Roslovic on a one-year contract with an average annual value of $1.5 million." the club said.

Vancouver's interest in Jack Roslovic reportedly cooled off as the summer went on, with the club deciding to turn their attention towards an in-season trade to address their need down the middle.
the organization's thinking on the matter, the Canucks have cooled significantly on the prospect of adding Roslovic as an unrestricted free agent at this point. Vancouver is still in the market to land a centre, but the trade market is viewed as a more likely and realistic route of addressing the club's greatest remaining need." The Athletic's Thomas Drance said in late August.

After skating with the team at practice on Friday, Jack Roslovic met with reporters where he opened up about his decision to sign with the Edmonton Oilers.
Roslovic said that signing in Edmonton gives him an opportunity at achieving his dream of hoisting the Stanley Cup, as the Oilers have their sights set on a third consecutive appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.
"That's going to be the theme of today, is opportunity. An opportunity to win. An opportunity to play with great players." Roslovic said.

He added, "You know, been to the conference finals the last two years, too. These guys obviously went all the way, but the fire is in me, too. I want to win. I know how hard it is. It's a great opportunity."

While some Canucks fans might be disappointed about the club not being able to sign Jack Roslovic, but let's face it, he wasn't going to take the 2C role from Filip Chyil and hasn't played much center to begin with in recent years.
Best case scenario for the Vancouver Canucks and Patrik Allvin is that they continue to play well to start the season and find themselves in a position to add a big name down the middle before the deadline in March.
