A National Hockey League insider believes that the Vancouver Canucks could potentially target players from an Eastern Conference team this season.

After a somewhat busy summer, the Vancouver Canucks kicked off the new season in a big way on Thursday with a 5-1 victory over the Calgary Flames and while the team's management group might be comfortable with the roster they have right now, if an opportunity pops up to make an improvement, General Manager Patrik Allvin will certainly jump at it.
As of earlier this month, reports suggest that Patrik Allvin is active in trade discussions around the NHL, with his target still being a second line centerman.
"Indeed, in checking into the Canucks' priorities this week, we weren't surprised to hear that Allvin is active in trade discussions as the start of the regular season approaches. Senior team officials cautioned, however, that it's difficult to gauge whether the Canucks will be able to accomplish the sort of trade they're looking for prior to setting their 23-man opening-day roster early next week." Thomas Drance of The Athletic said.

He added, "What the Canucks are shopping for is unchanged from this summer: an impact centre. Ideally, a second-line calibre player, but an above-average third-line centre would potentially do as well."

Patrik Allvin could eye up players from Eastern Conference team ahead of trade deadline

While it might be a bit too early to talk about the trade deadline and where teams may or may not be in the National Hockey League's standings at that time, but it's something that'll be on the mind of many around the game as we get closer to American Thanksgiving and into December.
One team that hasn't had a ton of success over the last decade and a half is the Buffalo Sabres and if history repeats itself this season, meaning the club is outside of the playoff picture in March, they could look to offload some players - pending UFAs and possibly even those with term on their contracts.
During a recent appearance on Sekeres and Price, National Hockey League insider Jeff Marek believes that players from the Buffalo Sabres will be a hot commodity for clubs looking to add and one team that could be in the mix is the Vancouver Canucks.
"Yes yes yes. Before you even finish with the question, yes." Marek said when asked if the Sabres could be an early seller. "I mean, I think we're at the point now with the Buffalo Sabres where by the time American Thanksgiving rolls around, how many players are going to be asking out?"

"Alex Tuch hasn't signed. His wife is from BC, she's actually from Vancouver. So, does that one make some sense? Does that satisfy what Vancouver is looking for? I know it's the race for a second line center, but, there's a lot of talk about, you know, talk around the Edmonton Oilers. That would probably make some sense with their newfound Connor McDavid cap space. I just mentioned Devon Levi a second ago, like they're ride or die right now with Alex Lyon and Colton Ellis, with UPL out. Things once again feel really, and I hate to do this just based on 'vibes', but man, don't things once again really feel off with the Buffalo Sabres."
Tuch, 29, tied a career-high in goals last season with 36 and along with the physical player that he is, which the Vancouver Canucks could certainly use come playoff time, the more important aspect here of a potential deal would be Patrik Allvin adding some depth scoring and someone who could slot in somewhere in the middle six.
