The Vancouver Canucks' top free agent target this summer has finally found a new home early on in the 2025-26 campaign, signing with their biggest rival.

Throughout the summer, the Vancouver Canucks were hoping to add a new centerman to the fold and made attempts to bring one in, even reportedly making offers to UFAs Mikael Granlund & Christian Dvorak, but struck out, with David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reporting last month that General Manager Patrik Allvin didn't get that close to actually bringing one in.
"I wish I had some sexy names to throw at you. I don't. Nothing that was overly impactful or anything that felt like it was getting close. I'm sure like every team, you do your due diligence, that's part of your job, you go out there, you poke around, you start to...like around that time of year you hear names that team's are necessarily shopping, but teams are poking around on and they kind of let that name kind of get out there a little bit and it leads to nothing, because there's nothing there." Pagnotta said.

He added, "I think the Canucks certainly tried to, you know, comb the market and see what was out there in terms of the center position. I just don't think they got close on anything."

With the 2025-26 season 2025-26 season already underway, those who are still UFAs scrambling to find new homes and on Wednesday, Vancouver's top free agent target officially put pen-to-paper on an NHL contract, but unfortunately, it isn't with the Canucks.

Just after puck drop in their game against the Calgary Flames last night, the Edmonton Oilers shared that they've agreed to a one-year contract with unrestricted free agent forward Jack Roslovic worth $1.5 million US.
"The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday they have agreed to terms with forward Jack Roslovic on a one-year contract with an average annual value of $1.5 million." the club said.

The Vancouver Canucks were in the mix for Jack Roslovic for a good chunk of the offseason, with many insiders believing that they could be the landing spot for the 28-year-old, however in the second half of August, Thomas Drance of The Athletic revealed that the Canucks' interest in the Columbus, Ohio native cooled off significantly, with Patrik Allvin more likely to add a forward via trade.
"At this point, from what I can gather from senior club sources informed about the organization's thinking on the matter, the Canucks have cooled significantly on the prospect of adding Roslovic as an unrestricted free agent at this point. Vancouver is still in the market to land a centre, but the trade market is viewed as a more likely and realistic route of addressing the club's greatest remaining need." Drance said.

In 81 games last season with the Carolina Hurricanes, Roslovic registered 39 points (22 goals, 17 assists), ten penalty minutes and was a minus-ten, while adding four points in nine contests during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
