The New Jersey Devils recently hired former Toronto Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe after he was fired following yet another disappointing playoff outcome. The Maple Leafs fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the first round — a story Leafs have are all too familiar with.

Keefe held his introductory press conference with the Devils on Wednesday and commented on his time with the Leafs and the moments leading up to his dismissal.
After five years and six playoff rounds, I'm a far better coach than when I arrived to the NHL.

— Sheldon Keefe
He also touched on the goodbye video he shared swiftly following his firing, stating that he filmed it in his «happy place», and that the idea was born on the suspicion he'd be let go the following day. His suspicions were correct.
He will enter the 2024-25 NHL season, presumably with less media scrutiny in a smaller market such as New Jersey. He was quickly replaced by Stanley Cup-winning bench boss Craig Berube, who was introduced to the Leafs' brass earlier last week.
Keefe never advanced past the second round with Toronto, only doing so in 2023, where they were bounced by the Florida Panthers in five games. He will search for a better fate south of the border in New Jersey.
